'Ello, 'ello, 'ello

Police manThe Welsh Liberal Democrats have been caught out using a fake policeman in their general election manifesto.

will discover on page 35 a photograph of the party's leader in Wales with what appears to be a representative of the thin blue line.

The Lib Dems' opponents have now taken down the particulars of the manifesto and are using them in evidence against them.

There are at least six photographs of Kirsty Williams in the manifesto, even though she isn't an election candidate. (It is apparently the real Kirsty Williams and not a model, in case you were wondering.)

The Lib Dems have the right to remain silent but they issued this statement:

"Photos like these are used for illustrative purposes as it is obviously difficult for some serving members of the police force or the health service to appear in general election literature.

"Kirsty Williams is not complicit in the impersonation of a police officer. There has been no such impersonation. Being photographed dressed in a way that illustrates the police service, does not in any way represent impersonating a police officer, so there is nothing to be complicit in." (your honour?)

The Lib Dems do have a record on this sort of thing. The nurse in one of their campaign leaflets is actually a party researcher.

Perhaps Kirsty Williams now regrets opting to exclude the Lib Dem candidate to be Secretary of State for Wales from the manifesto line-up.

Mind how you go now.
