Fonejacker

Vis | 15:36 UK time, Tuesday, 28 October 2008

Fonejacker is one of the most entertaining programs of our time. Who would have thought that prank calls and animation would bring so much joy to the nation. With the program launching a second series and the release of the DVD it was the perfect time for us to catch up with the prankster behind the tea bag balaclava known as the fonejacker.

BET Hip Hop Awards 2008

Ace | 11:56 UK time, Monday, 20 October 2008

We just got back from the 3rd Annual BET Hop Hip Awards in Atlanta held at the very prestigious Atlanta Civic centre. Viewed by 33 million homes across the world, this is without doubt now considered the biggest event in the Worldwide Hip hop calendar. Hip Hop and R&B's biggest names came out in full force to attend the ceremony which celebrates the elite performers of the year. The best thing about the awards for us is that it's the only US based awards show that has a UK hip-hop category. 1Xtra were supporters of that category so it was essential that we went over there to check out the festivities. UK nominees Chipmunk, Ghetto, Giggs and Skepta all travelled out there together taking full advantage of being part of such a big event, and Giggs walked away with the award for best UK hip hop act. It seemed almost everyone was in town for the hip-hop weekend, so we took the opportunity to catch up with some of the biggest names in the industry. Our Access ALL Areas weekend included dinner with Luda and his Mum at his restaurant, getting lost in the BET building with Jim Jones, hanging out with our boy DJ Kahled, shutting down malls with Busta, red carpet access from the awards, and finally seats for the hottest show in town.

Check out our highlight Shows, pictures and videos:

Listen to Monday's show now featuring interviews with LL Cool J, Chipmunk, Nas, Green Lantern, Giggs, Busta Rhymes, Yung Joc, Common, DJ Drama, Jim Jones, Keri Hilson, Ghetto, Skepta, & Nelly!

whats been happening...

Vis | 19:55 UK time, Monday, 13 October 2008

Yes people! It has been HEEEEEECTIC in the world of Ace and Vis this last week. We've had back to back meetings for the MOBOs on Wednesday (Not only are your boys nominated for BEST RADIO DJs, we're gonna be hosting from backstage live on the night, so make sure you're tuned in to Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ 3 on Wednesday from 9pm!!), picked up an award for our 1Xtra show at the Audio And Music Awards @ BAFTA in central London as well as getting ready for our trip out to ATL this weekend for the BET awards (don't miss our BET special on 1Xtra next Monday - we'll be on the red carpet and back stage and catching up with some BIG guests...).

We also had Black Twang and Akala( Who is most intelligent Rapper in the UK iv come across) listen to our 1xtra show last week to find out why. Click the pictures to listen

AKALA

Amongst all the madness, I managed to find time to pass through Reggae Roast with a good friend of mine last night. She's been telling me about the monthly event for a while now and I thought it was time I went down to see what all the fuss was about. It was a wicked vibe down there, with my boy Louis Slipperz from Task Force and the legendary David Rodigan blessing the decks - one to definitely check out

.

The legend Louie Slipperz from Task Force

The Red Wine mashed me up big time!

What i saw before i almost passed out!

Later we popped over The Foundry to check out some of it's latest exhibitions. There was a sick exhibition of music photography by Gaelle Beri https://www.gaelleberi.com/ , some conceptual art in the basement that I TRIED to get my head round but it just seemed like a couple of old burnt plates to me. The graff in the stairwell, however, totally killed it!

Art or Junk??

MY ALBUM OF THE WEEK

Since the glory days of Low Life Records and Big Dadda when independent urban labels were at their peak, I've found it hard to find many rappers from the UK that have the potential to make a big impact. But having listened to Wretch 32's Debut album "Wretchrospective" all weekend, I think he's definitely on his way. This 16 track album is SICK to say the least. On this album wretch shows he has the talent to rap about deep dark subjects in a creative thought provoking way. If your not into the deep stuff check out tracks like " Be Cool" and " Me and You" for the clubs and the ladies. The grime fans will be pleased to know the likes of Scorcher, Chipmunk and Ghetto also feature on this album and lay down some hot verses. My favourite thing about this album is how Wretch demonstrates that he has the art of story telling on lock, and my opinion is you can't be a great mc if you don't possess that skill. I will end this by saying I think most of Wretch's fans knew he could put together an album like this, and expected it, but can Wretch now do the unexpected on his next album and take the game somewhere else.

Watch this space for the backstage, AAA rundown of the MOBOs and BET awards from your boys Ace and Vis this week. We Love you.

Big up to Black Twang! 12 years strong in the game! 5 big albums deep one, of which happens to be my favourite albums of all time (19 Long time - If you dont know get to know!) Myself and Vis have followefd Twangs Career since schoolboys hollering out "Oi!! its strictly for them rudeboys in London!". His influence on UK artists is undeniable and his consistancy and longevity is unmatched interms of UK hiphop artists. Twangs new album "Speaking from Xpierience" is out now! GO GET IT! This weekend he had a showcase playing tracks if the new album aswell as a few classics with a live band. I was down there filming with MTV Base for a Black Twang Spanking new music special coming soon look out for it. Here are some pics from the event Shouts out to again for blesin us with these.

Host - Big Ted brought me on stage just to prove to the crowd that we werent the same person (personally I dont see the resemblence)

Twang hits the stage for a strong almost 2 hr long set. Very big K9 opens the show in fine fashion.

Veteran Million Dan hits the stage to support good friend Tony Rotten.
