Emma-Louise: Hi! Let’s help some friendly bugs to shelter and have fun at the same time. Let’s make a bug hotel.
We’re going to make our bug hotel from things we can find in nature. So first, head outside and find some good materials. Ask an adult what’s okay to pick up. You can use rocks, pinecones or all kinds of things. I have some twigs, sticks and leaves.
You’ll also need a pot with holes in the bottom, like the ones people use for plants. Then, start putting sticks in, pointing towards the bottom. If you need to break any sticks to get them to fit into the pot, ask an adult to help you. Keep going until it’s full. You don’t want any to fall out if you tip it upside down.
Then, stuff some leaves in the space between the sticks. Make sure you wash your hands after touching everything. You’re all done.
This bug hotel is perfect for bugs because it has dark little cracks and spaces for them to hide. Now we can take it outside and put it on its side, close to where bugs live. You can usually find bugs under things like logs or stones or inside things like tree stumps.
I wonder what bugs will come to our hotel. I can’t wait to find out.
Enjoy.
