The Woman in Black is a novella by Susan Hill about a ghostly experience that haunts the narrator, Arthur Kipps.

The story is narrated by the main character, Arthur Kipps. He is haunted repeatedly by the ghost of the Woman in Black and rescued by the kindly landowner, Samuel Daily.

The main themes in this story are isolation and loneliness, influences of the past and, as we might expect from a ghost story - fear.

Hill makes use of atmosphere, setting and isolated characters to create a tense and fear-inducing ghost story.
