Madeline's daughter, Eleanor, has Down's Syndrome, a type of Special Educational Need (SEN). Here Madeline explains her daughter's start in primary school and gives her tips to other parents of children who are starting school with SEND.

Madeline's tips:

• Do some research to find out which school might be most suited to your child.

• If you have any concerns, speak to the teachers at school or health care professionals.

• A Special Educational Needs and Disability Coordinator (SENDCo) at your child’s school can help guide you through the process of applying for an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
