Helping your child to improve their fine motor skills will help them when they start primary school. Early Years Specialist Claire Russell has some top tips to help you begin.

Claire's tips

  • Things like drawing with a pencil or using a knife and fork can be difficult for children. Practise by threading beads, play with modelling clay or other things around the house.

  • Gross motor skills, or bigger movements, can be practised by crawling like an animal or climbing on a climbing frame.
