Do you ever think about how you think? This might read like a riddle or trick question, but thinking about how you think and learn is actually a process called metacognition, which is something you can use to help improve your study skills.

What study strategies or revision techniques do you most enjoy using? When do you do your best work? It's always a good idea to reflect on your learning so you can figure out your study strengths and play to them. We've created a quiz to help you do just that!

Metacognitive knowledge is the knowledge we have about our strengths and weaknesses, as well as the tasks and strategies we use when we're learning and studying. Learn more about metacognition here.

Hopefully this has got you thinking about the choices and preferences that come into play when you get down to a study session. You might feel differently about these on different days or when you’re thinking about different study tasks. Remember, you can take the quiz again to unlock new study strategies!

If you need support

You should always tell someone about the things you’re worried about. You can tell a friend, parent, guardian, teacher, or another trusted adult. If you're struggling with your mental health, going to your GP can be a good place to start to find help. Your GP can let you know what support is available to you, suggest different types of treatment and offer regular check-ups to see how you’re doing.

If you’re in need of in-the-moment support you can contact , where you can speak to a counsellor. Their lines are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
