Anhafaleddau

Mewn hafaliad mae’r arwydd = yn golygu bod y ddwy ochr yr un fath. Ond beth sy’n digwydd pan dydy’r ddwy ochr ddim yr un fath?

Mae angen defnyddio anhafaleddau i ddangos y berthynas rhwng y ddwy ochr.

• Mae'r arwydd > yn golygu ‘mwy na’.

• Mae'r arwydd < yn golygu ‘llai na’.

Er enghraifft, os ydy x > 2, a bod x yn rhif cyfan, yna x = 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 ac yn y blaen. Mae'r arwydd > yn dangos bod x yn fwy na 2, ond nid yn hafal iddo, felly paid â chynnwys 2.

Inequalities

In an equation the = sign means the two sides are identical. But what happens when the two sides are not identical?

If this is the case you need to use inequalities to show the relationship between the two sides.

• The symbol > means ‘more than’.

• The symbol < means ‘less than’.

For example, if x > 2, then x = 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 etc. Here, the > symbol shows that x is greater than, but not equal to 2, so don't include the 2.

If y < 4, then y = 3, 2, 1, 0, -1 etc. Here, the < symbol shows that y is less than, but not equal to 4, so don't include the 4.
