From Alice in Wonderland to Batman, many great characters have to solve a tricky riddle as part of their journey.
But riddles aren't just for modern adventurers and superheroes. They are an ancient form of literature, and the oldest known riddle is 3800 years old.
The riddles in this quiz are a bit younger - they were all written in Europe in what's known as the early medieval period (400-1000 AD).
They're about all sorts of things, including animals, plants, maths and many other subjects.
They were written in Latin and Old English, but fear not - we have translated them for you.
