Giovanna Olvera fronts Birmingham soul and reggae band Little Game.

Half Mexican and half Italian, Giovanna grew up in San Diego, California listening to the sound of the sea and her grandmother's jazz and blues records.

"I came to the UK originally for three months just to visit," she said on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ WM Introducing. "I met (Little Game guitarist) Chris in Starbucks and we started writing music together. Three years later and I'm still here!"

Giovanna has assembled a fine cast of musicians - seven in all -Μύ to comprise Little Game, the band who were once known as Teasing G. Another name change though is not on the cards:

"No, we're sticking with Little Game. We had some new members join so we figured 'new name'. Little Game is the title of one of the first tracks we wrote."

Name changes aside, there is nothing inconsistent about Little Game's music. A soothing blend of blues, funk and soul held together by Giovanna's Joni Mitchell-esque vocals, Little Game stand out from the crowd immediately.

Giovanna sites the San Diego beaches - where she grew up - as the main influence for Little Game:

"It's much more of a reggae influence over there. It's that total beach feel. We don't have the kind of festival vibe that you have in the UK but being so close to the beach you're constantly having a lot of live music. The music's really chilled and mellow and you can definitely hear a lot of that in what we're doing here.

"I hope in the long run that's gonna help us. All of us are in this for the long haul".
