The Live Box returns

Birmingham's pioneering performance arts platform kicks off its new season.

The Live Box is run by Nu Century Arts and promises yet another season of live music, poetry, hip hop and dance from both emerging and established artists.

For seven years, The Live Box has successfully broken down barriers between high art and street culture, providing a relaxed and informal atmosphere for people of all ages and ethnic backgrounds.Μύ

This New York-based acoustic hip hop collective, Spokinn Movement are first up on Sunday 10th February 2008 bringing their dynamic stage show to The Live Box.

The four-piece has become an important fixture in Manhattan’s alternative hip hop scene, melding the worlds of spoken word, improvisational jazz, rock and funk.

They are led by the charismatic MC Ill Spokinn, and the night aims to provide a memorable start to the season.

Next up on Sunday 17th February 2008, Robert Mitchell's Panacea makes its Live Box debut playing music from a forthcoming third album.

Robert is widely regarded as one of the most innovative pianists in the UK. He's played with Greg Osby, Courtney Pine, Steve Coleman, Norma Winstone, J-Life, Quite Sane and many others.

In the final week of February on Sunday 24 February 2008, Multi-award winning saxophonist and MC Soweto Kinch returns to The Live Box with his full ensemble and audiovisuals.

After the critical success of his album B19 part one, and since winning his second MOBO award in 2007, Soweto has continued to develop his own unique approach to performance setting.

An exciting sneak preview of the much anticipated follow up album, A Life in the Day of B19: Basement Fables can be expected before the night is over.

The Live Box begins its new season with weekly shows every Sunday night starting 10th February 2008 running until April.
