Mexicolas: exclusive interview

Touring LA, meeting Ron Jeremy and playing by Loch Ness. The Mexicolas reveal all in this exclusive interview. Listen here!

"The music business nowadays is like the deli counter at Sainsbury's - you have to take your ticket and wait in line".

So says Jamie Evans, vocalist of the hugely successful Birmingham rock group, the Mexicolas.

Jamie - along with bassist Del Carter and drummer Tim Trotter - returned to Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ WM Introducing on Thursday 3rd July 2008, having first performed live on the programme last November.

Since that time, the Mexicolas have, in their own words, "come on massively".

The three Digbeth lads have just completed a five date tour of Los Angeles, a trip that culminated in a performance at the legendary Viper Room, one of America's most iconic music venues.

"Man it was amazing," said Jamie. "It was quite claustrophobic to be honest 'cause it's not as big as you'd imagine. It probably holds about 150 people. It was quite something to see a 'Mexicolas' sign there.

"The whole LA tour was eye-opening. Within the first few days we'd met the Lost Prophets, bumped into Ron Jeremy and talked to that guy out of American Pie. The reception we got was really good.

"We'd already had quite a lot of radio play over there with 'Come Clean' - our single. The Viper Room gig was at the end of the tour - by then people were singing along to our tracks. Everyone in LA is either in the music industry or the film industry."

In their exclusive interview on Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ WM Introducing, the Mexicolas talk more about LA, discuss the UK festivals they've played this year and offer thoughts on everything from the closure of Moseley's Jug Of Ale to the state of the music business.

They also treat us to a special live set, featuring acoustic versions of some of their classic tracks as well as unveiling some brand new songs!
