ArtsFest 2007

ArtsFest, the UK’s largest FREE arts festival celebrated its tenth year on 14th-16th September 2007 in Birmingham city centre. Take a look at our round-up of the event...

Music, dance, theatre, arts and crafts, fireworks, parades and behind-the-scenes tours - it was all happening at ArtsFest, the country’s largest free arts festival organised by Birmingham City Council.

There was plenty to keep the crowds entertained from Friday 14th through to Sunday 16th September, as an estimated 200,000 people turned out to enjoy the festivities.

ArtsFest kicked off on Friday night with Indie Invasion, followed throughout the weekend with just about all forms of entertainment you can think of.

Saturday evening was a highlight for many. Thousands packed Centenary Square to see Jasper Carrott being honoured in the Hollywood style Walk of Stars.

This was followed by Classical Fantasia with City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra delighting the audience and a world class performance from Birmingham Royal Ballet.

Birmingham Opera also took to the stage and the grand finale was a spectacular fireworks display choreographed to music from the CBSO.

There were far too many events and performances to list, but two events over at Eastside really got people talking - Blast and The Luminarium.

Blast drew on Birmingham’s industrial heritage, celebrating the modern city and looking to the future.

The Luminarium, a giant state-of-the-art installation 50 metres in length, had festival goers weaving their way through a series of tunnels and cave-like rooms with giant dome ceilings, showing amazing use of light and colour.

On Sunday evening, a Carnival Parade made it's way down Broad Street and into Centenary Square, when all the participants formed the number 10, in celebration of ArtsFest's 10th year.
