Birmingham's Chinese New Year will be celebrated on Sunday 13 February, at the Arcadian Centre, Hurst Street in Birmingham's Chinese Quarter. The Year of the Rooster will be welcomed with an exciting afternoon of entertainment including the Dragon Dance, music and martial arts demonstrations.

The free event, lasts from 1pm - 4pm and is organised by the Birmingham Chinese Festival Committee in conjunction with Birmingham City Council.

Councillor John Alden, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Sport and Culture said: "This afternoon of free family entertainment gives a chance for everyone to come together and celebrate the start of the Chinese New Year. The event is part of a year long calendar of community events supported by Birmingham City Council."

A spokesperson from the Chinese Festival Committee says:
"This will be a spectacular afternoon in which we invite people of all ages to come and share the traditions of the Chinese New Year."

The sound of firecrackers and the Dragon Dance will start the celebration atΜύ 1pm. The programme includes Chinese Karaoke, traditional and contemporary dance, Chinese Opera, a fashion show, rope skipping and martial arts demonstrations.
