Watch 'AI 2022: Automation, Algorithms and Accountability'

As we explored in our session Getting it Right many media organisations recognise the necessity to be transparent with users about their use of AI so are developing protocols around its application. But with the speed of innovation being so rapid, can we be sure those protocols are keeping up with developments?

Who is monitoring the industry’s use of these seemingly harmless strings of code and ensuring its use of algorithms stays on the right side of the ethical divide? Is it enough for the sector to commit to ethical principles? Would it help to have new tools, such as those that can identify bias in algorithmic decision-making? And is there any merit in the idea of auditing an organisation’s use of algorithmic systems?
