Roles and responsibilities
- Lorna Clarke is Director of Music at the Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ, with responsibility for a portfolio of six national popular and classical music networks (Radio 1, Radio 2, Radio 3, 6 Music, Radio 1Xtra, Asian Network) as well as Music Live Events, Music Television commissioning and the Visualisation team.
Biography
With over 30 years broadcasting experience under her belt, Lorna kicked off her radio career in 1985 as a news reporter at Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio Cornwall, which was followed by various production roles at Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ London/GLR, Metro Radio in Newcastle, and Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ World Service. Lorna made the switch back to commercial radio by becoming Programme Director at Kiss 100 FM in 1990, the year it began broadcasting legally after spending many years as a London based pirate station.
The Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ beckoned in 1997 and Lorna became Radio 1’s Head of Mainstream Programmes. Lorna joined Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Television in 2003, where she worked on a variety of initiatives to find the next generation of emerging new talent across Factual TV, Sport Journalism, Children’s, Music production, Animation, and film makers (direction). Between 2005 and 2010 Lorna was the Director of Electric Proms for which she launched and curated a series of live concerts across Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ radio and television, featuring artists including Sir Elton John, Dame Shirley Bassey, Mark Ronson, Oasis and Sir Paul McCartney at The Roundhouse. Lorna returned to radio in 2010 as Network Manager for Radio 2, 6 Music and Asian Network, gaining day to day accountability for the smooth running of all three networks. Prior to becoming Controller of Pop in September 2019, Lorna was made Head of Production for Radio 2 and 6 Music in 2017, gaining responsibility for the in-house production team for both stations. In May 2022, Lorna’s role evolved with the added responsibility of Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Radio’s music strategy, which includes classical music and the world’s biggest and longest-running music festival, The Proms. During this time Lorna has commissioned a star-studded season of programming across TV, radio and digital platforms to celebrate 60 years of The Rolling Stones, including a world-exclusive four-part box-set of films, My Life as a Rolling Stone for Βι¶ΉΤΌΕΔ Two, as well as annual coverage of Glastonbury, with 2023’s festival reaching 23m, more people on TV than ever before.

Declaration of personal interests
Staff must make a declaration of their personal and business interests, including any memberships or directorships of public or industry bodies, and any shareholdings, as well as any interests that their immediate families may also have.
A summary is published where there is something to declare and where there is nothing to declare. Occasionally an individual will have something to declare but due to the personal nature of the declaration we do not publish details as to do so would breach the General Data Protection Regulation.
This information is published annually, although if any amendments are made during the year an updated summary will be published if necessary as soon as it is available.
