1XTRA NEWS: THE REAL TALK OF THE STREETS
Should computer games be rated?
A computer game screengrab
Computer games could soon have film-style ratings to protect kids. Do you agree?
Video and computer games could be given movie-style certificates following a Government-backed study into how to protect children from violence.

Many games already have voluntary age limits, but at the moment only games like Assasin ofΒ Creed whichΒ show sex or strong violence have to apply for a full 18 certificate.

However, under the new proposals, 12 and 15 age ratings could now come in as well.Β What do you think?
Should computer games be rated to protect children from violence? Or do you thinkΒ that the systemΒ works fine as it is? TellΒ us what you think.Β

Colin Baker
I can see the argument for a rating system, as, if I had a child, then I wouldn't want to have my child seeing things that I would not let them see in any other medium. With computer systems getting better graphically, the imagery is on a par with anything that can be seen in an adult themed film.Where I draw the line is the attack on gamers who like playing games like Manhunt, Grand Theft Auto and the like. When Jack the Ripper was going around mutilating women, way back in 1888, did he have a game of Manhunt before doing so? My point is, if someone is mentally unbalanced and does not have the capacity to disassociate computer games from the reality of life, then they are going to commit these crimes against humanity, regardless.I've been playing all sorts of computer games for years and they have done me no harm. The last thing on my mind after a game of Manhunt, is to get a weapon, run down the Bull Ring Shopping Centre, chop up a few complete and random strangers!!!Lets give the kids a bible, where people are fed to lions, nailed to crosses, have their heads cut off, babies are thrown in rivers to drown...that's not violent at all!!
